Earthing is the most important factor to lightning and surge protection, with out a proper earth the current will take the path of least resistance and can create havoc in building and structures. The better the earthing the least problems you will have with your lightning and surge protection installations.

Never use less than 16mm square cable for earthing and consult the SABS OR NETFA if you can not get the resistance that you want.

SP 043 COPPER RODS FOR EARTHING

Copper rods is driven into the ground to enhance the dissipation of electrical current created from lightning or over voltage.

These rod are then connected to the copper wire that is laid into the ground and are connected to the main power, structure or lightning conductor.

Copper rod sizes

1) 1,2M SABS
2) 1,8M SABS
3) 2,4M SABS

Non SABS are the same sizes but does not have the same thickness of copper plating and will corode more than the SABS rods.

Exothermic Welding For Permanent Electrical Connections.

Exothermic welding is a safe and efficient way of making an electrical connection between conductors without using an external energy or heat process. The reliability of connections between conductors often reduces over a period of time and in many cases becomes the weak point in the electrical ircuit. Such a problem does not exist with exothermic welded connections as they provided a permanent connection between copper/copper/aluminium/steel.
